US: California’s Garnet Fire Burns 57,000 Acres in Sierra Nevada, Forces Evacuations

The Garnet Fire, sparked by lightning on August 24 in the Sierra National Forest near Garnet Dike, central California has burned about 57,000 acres and is 15% contained. Fire activity remains intense, particularly on the northwestern front, where crews are struggling with steep terrain that limits the use of heavy equipment. Mandatory evacuation orders are in place for multiple zones, with warnings in surrounding areas. Road closures affect McKinley Grove Road and sections of Trimmer Springs Road.

RECAP: Buckley Draw Fire Rages Near Provo, Utah

The Buckley Draw Fire broke out on the mountainside south of Slate Canyon in Provo, Utah, around 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2025. The fire quickly grew, reaching an estimated 427 acres by Tuesday, August 20, mainly spreading along the east flank at the top of Buckley Mountain. Steep terrain and active flames have made containment difficult. Evacuation warnings remain for nearby residents, and trails in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest are closed. Fire crews are making progress, with aircraft supporting suppression efforts. No injuries have been reported.

US: Monroe Canyon Fire Grows to 20,000 Acres, Prompts Evacuations in Utah

The Monroe Canyon Fire in Sevier County, Utah, has burned over 20,000 acres since July 13 and is just 13% contained as of Sunday, July 27. Evacuations have been ordered for several mountain communities, including Long Flat, Deep Lake, and Elk Country Cabins. Firefighters are battling tough conditions with high winds, dry fuels, and steep terrain. Nearly 1,000 personnel are on scene, and officials say parts of the fire remain “dicey” due to spot fires and fatigue among crews.
